Living Systems Down Under
New Ecosystems were established by Fungi. All life on land depends on these networks. Mycorrhizal fungi form a mutually beneficial symbiotic relationship with plant roots and are fundamental to the ecosystem. It is a tangled living maze and an important attribute in nature for earth’s ability to regenerate, rejuvenate, and renew itself.
My friend Marion introduced me to potato chip bags to use as plates in printing and this technique I have used as the primary medium for this series. Manipulating the bags with a hot iron creates the rich textures of my mycorrhizal world in art. I print the bags and explore the entangled textures like a mycologist and slowly the forms dictate the outcome for each piece.
